Reno Air Races |
Reno Air Races Quite some years ago I had the wish to build one of those wonderful air racers which one can see at the Reno Air Races. My choice was a highly modified Mustang, like the famed Red Baron or Precious Metal, cause I liked their look with the counter-rotating-propellers so much. So I took a Hasegawa kit in 1:72 and started to make the conversion. Modifying the tail was an easy job but the biggest probelm came with the new arrangement of the engine cowling. This I had to change entirely which was pretty time consuming. The new canopy came from the spare box from some unknown kit. The entire model was covered with bare metal foil and some other small details were added too. At the end I made a small diorama with the little tower added some figures and the little truck which I found in a supermarket, I only had to add a few more details to the car to make it a little bit better. After I finished this whole mode, someone told me that I could have bought one of those already modified Mustang kits from High-planes, this would have been much easier but so I can say this is what I have done by myself. USN 87 René Hieronymus Scale 1:72 Building time approx: 43 hrs.
